The health section compares countries on life expectancy, child and maternal mortality, disease, health spending and lifestyle, using the World Health Organization, UNAIDS and the World Bank. A US series built from the CDC's provisional counts shows drug overdose deaths in every state, including deaths involving fentanyl and methamphetamine.
California recorded 9,049 drug overdose deaths in the 2025 data, about twice the 4,491 in Texas. South Africa has 7.6 million people living with HIV, the most of any country. India had an estimated 2.7 million tuberculosis cases in 2024, more than twice Indonesia's 1.1 million. Monaco had the longest life expectancy in 2024, at 86.5 years.
Several rankings, such as life expectancy and health spending per person, are available for more than one year, so you can see how a country's position changes.
