Meth Overdose Death Rate by State 2025
About This Dataset
Meth Overdose Death Rate by State 2025How the data is collected. The counts come from provisional death certificate data that the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the CDC publishes every month, here for the 12 months ending December 2025. The drug category is ICD-10 code T43.6; cocaine is counted separately. The rate is CDC's count divided by the BEA 2025 population estimate.
Background. Nationally 26,260 deaths involved psychostimulants, 37.2 per cent of all overdose deaths. In 11 states the stimulant rate was higher than the fentanyl rate, among them Hawaii, California and Oklahoma.
Limits. Louisiana and Nevada are left out because CDC does not publish drug-specific counts for them in this dataset. A death involving several drugs is counted under each of them.
The highest stimulant death rate, Alaska's 28.3, was 20.0 times the lowest, Maryland's 1.4.
