About This Dataset
Top 10 Countries by Adults Living with Diabetes, 2024 Estimates
China has an estimated 148.0 million adults living with diabetes, India 89.8 million, and the United States 38.5 million. The chart reproduces the 2024 top-ten numeric estimates in Table 3.4, in millions, retaining the source’s one-decimal precision.
The IDF Diabetes Atlas, 11th edition (2025), estimates diabetes in adults aged 20–79 for 2024, including diagnosed and undiagnosed cases. These are modelled population estimates, not a count of clinic registrations. They are not new 2026 measurements. The comparison provides background for World Diabetes Day on November 14.
Absolute numbers depend heavily on population size. A large number of adults with diabetes does not necessarily mean a country has a high prevalence rate. Children and adults outside the 20–79 range are excluded. Do not mix these 2024 estimates with the separate 2050 projections shown alongside them in the Atlas.
Sources checked October 26, 2026. Equal values represent ties; display order does not break a tie.

Analysis
China and India together account for 237.8 million adults with diabetes—about 40.4% of the Atlas’s global estimate of 588.7 million for the same age range and year. This is a share of cases, not a prevalence rate.
