Countries That Diagnosed the Most Tuberculosis Cases 2024
About This Dataset
Countries That Diagnosed the Most Tuberculosis Cases 2024
What this chart shows. The 25 countries that diagnosed and reported the most new and relapse tuberculosis cases in 2024. India notified 2,498,584 cases, Indonesia 839,018 and the Philippines 544,948. Worldwide 8,329,390 cases were notified, about 2.37 million fewer than the 10.7 million WHO estimates fell ill.
How the data is collected. Unlike the other charts in this set, these are counts rather than estimates: national tuberculosis programs report to WHO every person diagnosed and registered for treatment during the year. The gap between notifications and estimated cases is the number of people who were never diagnosed or whose diagnosis was not reported.
Background. Notifications worldwide rose from 6,160,831 in 2015, a 35.2% increase, as countries found more of their cases. Nigeria's grew 4.6 times, from 87,211, and Indonesia's from 331,703. India reported 92.2% of its estimated cases, while Myanmar reported only 43.5%, the lowest share among these countries.
Limits. A higher count can mean better case-finding rather than more disease; China's notifications fell from 798,439 to 531,097 as its epidemic shrank. Russia reported slightly more cases than WHO's estimate of new cases. North Korea, with 71,277 notifications, has no WHO incidence estimate in this dataset.
