Mushroom Production by Country 2024

About This Dataset

Mushroom Production by Country 2024
What this chart shows. The 25 countries that produced the most mushrooms in 2024, in thousands of tonnes. China led with 48,607.2 thousand tonnes, followed by Japan with 494.8 thousand and India with 347.4 thousand. The world total was 51.6 million tonnes.

How the data is collected. The figures come from FAOSTAT, the statistics database of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, which collects national production data through annual questionnaires and fills gaps with its own estimates. The item is FAO's "mushrooms and truffles". China's figure, the one that decides the world total, is imputed by FAO, and so is Japan's.

Background. China produced 94.2 per cent of the world's mushrooms, so the next 24 countries together made up only 5.6 per cent. World output was 45.9 per cent higher than in 2014. India climbed from 18th place in 2014 to third.

Limits. With one imputed figure making up almost the whole total, the world number is only as good as FAO's estimate for China. Russia's figure is also imputed, and it is 17.0 per cent below 2023.
Analysis

Poland, fifth with 255.4 thousand tonnes, was the largest mushroom producer in the European Union.
