About This Dataset
10 Largest Individually Published US State Broiler Liveweight Estimates, 2025
North Carolina leads the ten largest individually published state estimates of broiler production by liveweight in USDA’s 2025 summary. The source period is December 1, 2024 through November 30, 2025, rather than the calendar year or a 2026 forecast. The table on page 7 reports thousand pounds; dividing by 1,000 gives million pounds. Liveweight is the weight of live birds produced, not ready-to-cook meat, retail sales, bird counts or turkey output; other domestic meat-type chicken strains are included. The report excludes states producing fewer than 500,000 broilers. California, Tennessee and West Virginia are combined, and 14 other states are combined separately to protect individual operations. These aggregates are excluded from the state ranking, not assigned to one state, so the chart is explicitly limited to individually published estimates. No cutoff tie occurs among those estimates. The national total is 62,245.0 million pounds. Holiday meal planning provides plausible seasonal context as of October 30, 2026; this dataset does not measure Thanksgiving chicken purchases or rising search interest.
Analysis
North Carolina exceeds Georgia by 104.2 million pounds, although Georgia produces more birds. The top three liveweight estimates total 24,228.8 million pounds, 38.9% of the national total. The ten shown sum to 48,430.8 million pounds, or 77.8%.
