Home Value Growth by State 2020-2026
About This Dataset
Home Value Growth by State 2020-2026How the data is collected. The growth rates are our calculation from Zillow's mid-tier Home Value Index for all homes, comparing the August 2026 value with the August 2020 value in each state. The index is smoothed and seasonally adjusted, so the two months are directly comparable.
Background. Four of the five fastest-growing states are in New England: New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine, with Montana the exception. The median state rose 44.8%.
Limits. Other indexes give larger increases. The Federal Housing Finance Agency's purchase-only index, which follows repeat sales of the same houses, shows more growth than Zillow in every state between the second quarters of 2020 and 2026, and puts DC up 11.9% rather than down. Its five fastest-growing places also include four New England states.
New Hampshire's typical home value rose 66.9% between August 2020 and August 2026, the most of any state; Louisiana's rose 7.5%, the least.
