Chicken Meat Production by Country 2024

What this chart shows. The 25 countries that produced the most chicken meat in 2024, in thousands of tonnes. The United States led with 20,177 thousand tonnes, followed by China with 15,350 thousand and Brazil with 13,715 thousand. The world produced 128.3 million tonnes.

How the data is collected. The figures come from FAOSTAT, the statistics database of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, which collects national production data through annual questionnaires and fills gaps with its own estimates. The item is meat of chickens, the largest meat item in FAO's data by weight in 2024, ahead of pork. FAO marks China's figure as coming from an external organisation rather than an official national report.

Background. The top three produced 38.4 per cent of the world's chicken meat. World production rose 2.9 per cent from 2023.

Limits. Definitions differ between sources: the US Department of Agriculture, which uses its own definitions for chicken meat, gives 21,343 thousand tonnes for the United States and 15,000 thousand for Brazil, but ranks the same three countries first. Several figures, including Russia's and Japan's, are FAO imputations.
