What this chart shows. The 25 countries that produced the most pork in 2024, in thousands of tonnes. China led with 57,060 thousand tonnes, 45.5 per cent of the world's 125.4 million, followed by the United States with 12,611 thousand and Brazil with 5,359 thousand.
How the data is collected. The figures come from FAOSTAT, the statistics database of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, which collects national production data through annual questionnaires and fills gaps with its own estimates. The item is pig meat, measured as carcass weight with the bone in. China means mainland China; Taiwan and Hong Kong are listed separately.
Background. China produced 4.5 times as much pork as the United States. Europe is strongly represented: Spain, Germany, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy and Belgium are all in the top 25.
Limits. Russia's figure is imputed by FAO rather than reported, and Viet Nam's and South Korea's come from other organisations. The US Department of Agriculture's pork figures for China and the United States match FAO's.
