Orange Production by Country 2024
About This Dataset
Orange Production by Country 2024
What this chart shows. The 25 countries that grew the most oranges in 2024, in thousands of tonnes. Brazil led with 15,688.4 thousand tonnes, followed by China with 7,620.0 thousand and Mexico with 4,836.1 thousand. The world total was 67.2 million tonnes.
How the data is collected. The figures come from FAOSTAT, the statistics database of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, which collects national production data through annual questionnaires and fills gaps with its own estimates. The figures for China and Egypt are taken from an international source rather than from the national authorities; China's 7,620.0 thousand tonnes equals the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimate for 2024/25, and Mexico's figure matches USDA's to the nearest thousand tonnes.
Background. Brazil grew 23.3 per cent of the world's oranges even though its harvest fell 11.1 per cent from 2023. World production fell 2.9 per cent. Turkey had the steepest fall in the top 25, 30.3 per cent.
Limits. USDA counts by marketing year and puts Brazil's 2024/25 crop at 13,000 thousand tonnes, well below FAO's figure, so Brazil's exact total depends on the source. The chart covers oranges only; tangerines, lemons and grapefruit are separate items.
