What this chart shows. The 25 countries that sold the most electric two- and three-wheelers in 2025: electric scooters, motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles such as auto-rickshaws. China sold about 7.4 million, India 2.1 million and Vietnam 740,000. Together these three accounted for about 93% of the 11 million sold worldwide.
How the data is collected. The IEA's Global EV Data Explorer tracks electric two- and three-wheelers as a separate transport mode alongside cars, vans, buses and trucks. It reports the number sold in each country and the electric share of all two- and three-wheeler sales there. The chart shows the number sold.
Background. About 50% of all two- and three-wheelers sold in China in 2025 were electric, against 10% in India and 22% in Vietnam. Vietnam's sales rose from about 290,000 in 2024 to 740,000. Turkey ranked 4th with 170,000, and every European country in the chart sold fewer than Japan's 26,000.
Limits. Two- and three-wheelers are combined, so the chart cannot separate India's electric rickshaws from its scooters. The IEA rounds each figure to two significant figures. Small markets can have high electric shares on low volumes: in Denmark about 41% of two- and three-wheeler sales were electric, but that was only 3,700 vehicles.
