Wikipedia Language Editions by Article Edits 2025

What this chart shows. The twenty language editions where people made the most changes to articles during 2025. Across every edition, human editors made 94,174,629 article edits that year, a figure the Wikimedia Foundation gives as 94,135,666 in its own year in review, and the twenty here cover most of it.

How the data is collected. Wikimedia sorts each saved change by the kind of account behind it, separating registered editors and unregistered ones, who are identified only by network address, from accounts flagged as bots. This chart adds the two human categories and counts only changes to encyclopedia articles, leaving out talk pages, user pages and other behind-the-scenes work.

Background. Nearly 250,000 people edited a Wikimedia project in the first half of 2025, at a rate of about 324 edits a minute worldwide. Software agents remain a large part of the record: bots made 31,563,306 further article edits in 2025, 25.1 percent of every change articles received.

Limits. An edit count says nothing about the size of a change, so a comma and a rewritten section weigh the same here. Some editions lean on automation far more than others, and the split between registered and unregistered editing is a matter of local policy: Portuguese Wikipedia recorded 5 anonymous article edits in the entire year, against 35.9 percent of Korean edits and 31.0 percent of Italian ones.
