What this chart shows. How many pages readers opened in each of the twenty busiest language editions of Wikipedia during 2025. All 348 editions that were open that year served 166,127,577,423 pageviews between them, and the twenty shown here hold 94.5 percent of that.
How the data is collected. Wikimedia counts a pageview each time a page is delivered to a browser or an app, separates traffic it identifies as automated, and publishes monthly totals for every edition through its statistics service. The figures here add the twelve months of 2025 for requests classified as coming from people, across desktop, mobile web and the mobile apps.
Background. The Foundation reports that readers spent about 5.4 billion hours on Wikipedia across all languages in 2025, of which 2.8 billion hours were on the English edition, and that English alone reached around 965 million unique devices a month. The mobile share differs sharply by language: 90.2 percent of Persian views came from mobile devices, against 53.9 percent for Chinese.
Limits. Automated traffic that Wikimedia has not identified stays in these totals, and some of it is large; an English page about the .xxx domain collected 46,726,803 supposedly human views in 2025, and a page about Google Chrome 36,924,573, both later flagged as false positives. Front pages and search pages are counted too, and an edition is a language rather than a country, so Spanish and Portuguese views arrive from dozens of nations at once.
Analysis
English served 85,541,514,536 pageviews, 51.5 percent of the 166,127,577,423 recorded across every edition and more than the 80,586,062,887 of all the other editions put together. Japanese is second on 10,926,145,508 and Russian third on 9,313,400,132, both ahead of German on 8,885,196,084. French and Spanish are effectively tied for fifth place, separated by 16,555,240 views, or 0.2 percent. Chinese, seventh on 5,418,894,003, is the least mobile of the twenty, with 53.9 percent of its views from phones against 90.2 percent for Persian. Twentieth place, Vietnamese on 721,951,430, is less than one percent of the English figure.
