Most-Read English Wikipedia Articles 2025

What this chart shows. The twenty-five articles that people opened most often on English Wikipedia during 2025, as published by the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that runs the site. The twenty-five together were opened 477,756,019 times. Fourteen of them are biographies of a single person.

How the data is collected. Every request served to a reader is logged and counted, and the published figures include both direct visits and arrivals through a redirect, so views of Pope Leo XIV under the name Robert Prevost count towards his article. The Foundation filters out requests its systems recognise as coming from bots rather than people before any ranking is made.

Background. The Foundation has published a list of the most-read English articles every year since 2015, and it screens each year for false positives in two further ways. Pages whose share of desktop views falls under 2 percent or rises above 80 percent are removed, because those extremes correlate strongly with spam and botnets. Pages that collect very large numbers of visits with no referring page are removed too, which mostly affects articles about big websites and browsers.

Limits. A pageview is a request, not a reader: the Foundation notes that its privacy policy leaves it no way to count repeat visitors, so a page people return to daily is flattered. The screening also removes real traffic. The article on ChatGPT drew 42,833,025 views by the same pageview data and is absent here. The Foundation adds that a good share of the traffic to the list of deaths at the top is likely to be the same readers coming back as it is updated.
