Most Massive Exoplanets Discovered in 2025The heaviest exoplanets discovered in 2025, in Jupiter masses, counting only planets with a measured true mass. The list runs to 16 planets because two of them tie on 10 Jupiter masses.
How the data is collected
The values come from the Planet Mass field in the NASA Exoplanet Archive's composite table. The archive labels each mass as either a true mass or a minimum mass, written Mass*sin(i), and only true masses are used here. Planets whose mass was calculated by the archive rather than taken from a paper are also left out, so the ranking rests on published measurements.
Background
The archive's first rule for including an object as a planet is that its mass, or minimum mass, is equal to or less than 30 Jupiter masses. It gives the companion to SCR 1845 as an example of an object that was not included, because its estimated mass is above that limit. When a paper reports a mass range, the archive adopts the middle of the range as the value.
Limits
The archive notes that each catalogue has its own criteria for what to include, so objects near the top of this list may not be counted as planets elsewhere. Planets with only a minimum mass cannot be ranked on the same basis; that applies to 54 of the 2025 discoveries, including 53 of the 61 found by radial velocity.
KMT-2024-BLG-0404L b is the most massive planet discovered in 2025 with a measured true mass, at 27.24 Jupiter masses. BEBOP-4 AB b follows at 26.3, and ZTF J1230-2655 b and TOI-5882 b are close together at 22.1 and 22.01. Eleven of the planets shown are above 13 Jupiter masses. The list mixes six discovery methods: microlensing, radial velocity, transit, astrometry, imaging and transit timing variations. ESA's Gaia satellite is credited with three of them: Gaia-5 b (20.87), HD 128717 b (19.8) and Gaia-4 b (11.8).
