Nearest Exoplanets Discovered in 2025The 15 closest planetary systems among the exoplanets discovered in 2025, measured by the distance from Earth to the star each planet orbits. Distances are shown in light-years, converted from the archive's parsecs at 3.26156 light-years per parsec, and the nearest system is ranked first.
How the data is collected
The distances are the System Distance values in the NASA Exoplanet Archive's composite table for planets with a discovery year of 2025. For all 15 planets shown, the archive takes that distance from version 8 of the TESS Input Catalog, and none of them is a value the archive calculated itself. Several planets orbiting the same star share one distance.
Background
Proxima Centauri d is listed as a 2025 discovery because the archive credits it to Suarez Mascareno et al. (2025). The archive records Barnard b as a 2024 discovery, and three more planets around the same star, Barnard c, d and e, as discoveries of 2025. That gives Barnard's star four planets in the archive, one credited to 2024 and three to 2025.
Limits
Distance belongs to the star, so a planet's own distance from Earth is effectively the same as its host's. The chart covers only planets discovered in 2025; closer planets found in earlier years are not included. Distances in the source are rounded here to one decimal place in light-years, and small differences near the bottom of the list fall within that rounding.
Proxima Centauri d is the nearest planet discovered in 2025 at 4.2 light-years. Barnard c, d and e share second place at 6.0 light-years. Ten of the 2025 discoveries orbit stars within 32 light-years, and 14 of the 15 nearest were found by radial velocity. GJ 341 b, at 34.1 light-years, is the only transit discovery in this list. G 192-15 has two new planets in the list, both at 31.1 light-years. The fifteenth-nearest, Gl 410 b, is 38.9 light-years away, more than nine times as far as Proxima Centauri d.
