What this chart shows
The observatories, satellites and survey networks credited with at least three of the exoplanets discovered in 2025. Twelve facilities reach that mark; nine more are credited with one or two planets each.

How the data is collected
Each planet in the NASA Exoplanet Archive's composite table has a Discovery Facility field naming the site or mission credited with the discovery. The chart counts that field for the 245 planets with a discovery year of 2025, as the table stood on 14 September 2026. "Multiple Observatories" appears as its own entry in the archive's facility field.

Background
The archive describes the composite table as a compilation of system, stellar and planetary parameters for known confirmed exoplanets, with one row per planet. Its purpose, in the archive's words, is to enable a more statistical view of the known exoplanet population and their host environments. The archive monitors the literature for planet publications from both NASA and non-NASA observing resources, from the ground and from space.

Limits
The archive records a single discovery facility for each planet, so any other telescopes used to confirm a planet are not credited here. An observatory entry can combine several telescopes: the archive's separate Discovery Telescope field splits La Silla's 18 planets between the 3.6 m ESO Telescope (13) and the 1.2 m Leonhard Euler Telescope (5). The label "Multiple Observatories" hides which sites were involved.
Analysis

NASA's TESS satellite is credited with 129 of the 245 planets discovered in 2025, 52.7% of the total, and 127 of those were transit discoveries. La Silla Observatory and the KMTNet microlensing network tie for second on 18 each, so TESS found more than seven times as many as either. The archive files 17 planets under Multiple Observatories. Kepler is still credited with 5 new planets in 2025. Only 21 different facility labels appear for the whole year.
