Countries with the Highest Suicide Mortality Rate 2021
About This Dataset
Countries with the Highest Suicide Mortality Rate 2021
Countries ranked by suicide mortality (per 100,000) in 2021, using World Bank figures for the 185 countries that reported that year. Lesotho leads on 28.66, ahead of South Korea (27.53) and Eswatini (27.23). The rate is age-standardised deaths per 100,000 people. Countries differ in how deaths are certified, and suicide is under-recorded where it carries legal or religious penalties, so comparisons between countries are indicative rather than exact.
Analysis
Lesotho (28.66), South Korea (27.53) and Eswatini (27.23) take the top three. Across the twenty shown, values run from 28.66 down to 16.58, a spread of 12.08. Only 1.13 separates Lesotho from South Korea in second, 3.9% of the leading figure. The chart shows the twenty highest of 185 reporting countries, so it describes the top of the distribution rather than the world average.
