Rice Production by Country, 1990-2024

About This Dataset

Rice Production by Country, 1990-2024
India has overtaken China to become the world's largest rice producer, and the gap between the two is far smaller than their populations would suggest. The fastest growth is further down the table: Cambodia has increased output more than fivefold since 1990, and Pakistan has tripled its own. India matters to the rest of the world more than its rank alone implies, because it is by a wide margin the largest exporter, so its periodic export bans move prices across West Africa and the Gulf within weeks. Figures are paddy rice.
