Countries That Added the Most Solar Power in 2025

What this chart shows. How much more solar electricity each country generated in 2025 than in 2024, in TWh, for the 20 largest increases in Ember's data. China added 335.9 TWh, 52.8 per cent of the world's increase of 635.7 TWh. The United States added 85.1 TWh and India 52.9 TWh.

How the data is collected. Each value is a country's 2025 solar generation minus its 2024 generation, both taken from the same Ember release, so revisions to earlier years are already included. It measures new output, not new panels: a system installed late in 2024 counts fully only in 2025.

Background. Ember's review says China recorded more than half of the global increase in both solar capacity and solar generation in 2025. Pakistan was fifth, adding 16.8 TWh, a rise of 84.5 per cent in a single year. Of the 78 countries with at least 10 TWh of total generation, 6 generated less solar power than in 2024; the largest fall was Vietnam's, from 25.9 to 23.1 TWh.

Limits. Absolute increases favour large countries. In percentage terms the fastest growth among these 20 was Uzbekistan's, 124.1 per cent, from 2.9 to 6.5 TWh. Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq have no 2025 figure and could not be compared.
