Wind Power Generation by Country 2025

What this chart shows. The 20 countries that generated the most electricity from wind turbines in 2025, in TWh, in Ember's data. China led with 1,135.4 TWh, 41.9 per cent of the world's 2,711.9 TWh, followed by the United States with 464.4 TWh and Germany with 136.0 TWh.

How the data is collected. Each value is the electricity produced by onshore and offshore wind farms combined over the calendar year, as compiled by Ember from national statistics, Eurostat and the US Energy Information Administration. Only the 91 countries with a 2025 figure in Ember's release are ranked.

Background. World wind generation grew by 203.7 TWh in 2025, or 8.1 per cent, while solar grew by 635.7 TWh. As a result, solar produced more electricity than wind in 2025, for the first time in Ember's world series, which starts in 2000.

Limits. Wind output depends on the weather, so a fall from one year to the next does not mean turbines were removed: among the 20, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Italy and Denmark generated less wind power in 2025 than in 2024. Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq have no 2025 figure in the release.
