Highest Batting Averages in MLB 2025
What this chart shows. The eleven highest batting averages among the 145 hitters who qualified for the 2025 batting title, including three players tied on .295 in ninth place. Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees led the majors at .331, twenty points ahead of Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays and Jacob Wilson of the Athletics on .311. Trea Turner of the Philadelphia Phillies led the National League at .304, level with Jeremy Peña of the Houston Astros.
How the data is collected. MLB's official Stats API marks which hitters qualified; the one with the fewest plate appearances had 502, which is 3.1 for each of his team's 162 games. Averages are shown to three decimals, as MLB publishes them. Bichette, with 181 hits in 582 at-bats, finished just ahead of Wilson, with 151 in 486, before rounding. Josh Naylor's .295 combines .292 for the Arizona Diamondbacks and .299 for the Seattle Mariners. The two league leaders, Judge and Turner, match Wikipedia's leader tables for the season.
Background. MLB's glossary calls batting average one of the oldest and most universal measures of a hitter: hits divided by at-bats, a number between .000 and 1.000. The glossary says the league-wide average has hovered around .250 in recent years; in 2025 the players in the API collected 40,138 hits in 163,664 at-bats, or .245. For a single season, 1887, walks were counted as hits.
Limits. Batting average leaves out walks and hit-by-pitches, and it counts a single the same as a home run, two gaps the glossary itself points out. Judge hit 53 home runs on the way to his .331, while Wilson hit 13. Hitters below the qualifying line are not shown, however high their average.

Analysis
Judge had 179 hits in 541 at-bats, and his lead of twenty points was the largest gap between any two neighbours in the list. Toronto placed two hitters in the top four, Bichette at .311 and George Springer at .309. Yandy Díaz of the Tampa Bay Rays finished at exactly .300, the last hitter to reach that mark.
