Cal Raleigh Hit 60 Home Runs and the Brewers Won 97 Games, but the 2025 Title Went to the Dodgers

Four hitters reached 50 home runs in the 2025 Major League Baseball season, led by Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners with 60. Garrett Crochet struck out 255 batters, Aaron Judge hit .331 and José Caballero stole 49 bases. The Milwaukee Brewers won 97 games, more than any other team, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, with 93, won the World Series. Five charts built from MLB's official Stats API, each checked against the leader tables and standings on Wikipedia, show how the regular season was split.

Four hitters reached 50

Raleigh's 60 put him four ahead of Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies, who hit 56 and led the National League. Shohei Ohtani hit 55 for the Dodgers and Judge 53 for the New York Yankees. The home run chart lists twelve hitters, because three players tied on 36 in tenth place. Raleigh also hit them most often among the top four: once every 9.9 at-bats, against 10.2 for Judge, 10.8 for Schwarber and 11.1 for Ohtani. Seven players reached 40 home runs and 33 reached 30.

Two names in the list played for two clubs. Eugenio Suárez hit 36 for the Arizona Diamondbacks and 13 for the Mariners, 49 in all, and Rafael Devers hit 15 for the Boston Red Sox and 20 for the San Francisco Giants. The API keeps one line per player for the season, so their totals are combined.

Twelve pitchers passed 200 strikeouts

Crochet, of the Boston Red Sox, led the majors with 255 strikeouts, fourteen more than Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, and Logan Webb of the Giants led the National League with 224. All twelve pitchers in the strikeout chart passed 200, and every one of them was used only as a starter. Measured per nine innings, Dylan Cease of the San Diego Padres struck out the most batters, 11.52, reaching his 215 in 168 innings. Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates struck out 216 and had an earned run average of 1.97, the lowest among qualified pitchers.

Stealing: the leader was caught 11 times

Caballero stole 34 bases for the Tampa Bay Rays and 15 for the Yankees after a trade, 49 in all, five more than Chandler Simpson and José Ramírez. The stolen base chart counts only successes, and the success rates differ: Caballero was caught 11 times and Simpson 12, while Juan Soto of the New York Mets stole 38 in 42 attempts, a rate of 90.5 per cent. Across all 765 players with a 2025 batting line, runners stole 3,440 bases and were caught 989 times.

Judge led by twenty points

Among the 145 hitters who qualified for the batting title, Judge's .331 was twenty points higher than the next two, Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays and Jacob Wilson of the Athletics on .311. That was the largest gap between any two neighbours in the batting average chart. Trea Turner led the National League at .304. For comparison, the players in the API collected 40,138 hits in 163,664 at-bats in 2025, a combined average of .245.

The best record did not win the title

The Brewers finished 97-65, one win ahead of the Phillies, and the Blue Jays and Yankees both won 94 in the American League East. At the bottom, the Colorado Rockies went 43-119, 54 wins behind Milwaukee. The Dodgers' 93 wins were only the fifth-highest total, yet according to Wikipedia's page for the season they beat the Blue Jays in seven games in a World Series that ended on November 1. The team wins chart shows all 30 clubs; eight won 90 or more and 17 finished at .500 or better.

All five charts use the regular season only; postseason games are not counted. The league leaders in each chart match Wikipedia's leader tables for the American and National Leagues, and every team's record matches its six division tables.
