Valve's monthly hardware survey records which headset SteamVR users have connected. This chart shows the most common headsets in the August 2026 survey as a share of surveyed VR users, not of all Steam users.
Analysis
The Oculus Quest 2 leads on 26.97%, just ahead of the Meta Quest 3 on 26.01% - the top two are separated by 0.96 of a percentage point. Meta's headsets together hold 71.8% of the surveyed VR machines, so this is close to a single-vendor market. Valve's own Valve Index HMD is third on 11.07%, the only headset in the top four not built by Meta.
