Wind Share of Electricity by Country 2021
Share of each country's total electricity generation that came from wind power in 2021, measured by Ember from reported national grid data. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
2021 was a poor wind year across much of Europe, and this table shows it. Denmark still led at 48.8%, but that is more than five points below its 2022 figure, and the United Kingdom fell to 21.1% from 24.4% the year before. Ireland at 31.3% and Uruguay at 31.2% are separated by a tenth of a point. Costa Rica at 12.3% is a rare Central American entry in a wind ranking, and Kenya at 16.1% ranks ahead of the Netherlands, Croatia and Belgium.
