About This Dataset
Wind Share of Electricity by Country 2024
Share of each country's total electricity generation that came from wind power in 2024, measured by Ember from reported national grid data. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
Denmark is far clear of every other country, taking 58.4% of its electricity from wind - almost 20 percentage points more than Uruguay at 38.6% and Ireland at 37.3%. Wind is heavily concentrated in northern Europe, which supplies most of the top twelve. The United Kingdom at 29.3% and Germany at 28.6% are the largest systems on the list, each generating close to 300 TWh or more in total, so their shares represent far more wind power than Denmark's 35 TWh grid. Outside Europe only Uruguay, Morocco and Kenya appear.
