Wind Share of Electricity by Country 2023
Share of each country's total electricity generation that came from wind power in 2023, measured by Ember from reported national grid data. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
Denmark took 57.2% of its electricity from wind in 2023, already the highest figure in the world and about 2.0 times that of the fifth-placed country. Ireland at 37.6% and Uruguay at 37.1% follow. Compared with the 2024 table the membership barely changes, and that is the point: wind capacity takes years of permitting and construction, so these rankings move far more slowly than the solar equivalents, where a single boom year can reorder the top five.
