Solar Share of Electricity by Country 2022
Share of each country's total electricity generation that came from solar power in 2022, measured by Ember from reported national grid data. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
In 2022 Chile stood alone at the top with 17.3% of its electricity from solar, nearly two points clear of Jordan at 15.3%. What stands out is how tightly packed the rest of the field was: Greece, DR Congo and Australia were level at 13.8% with the Netherlands only a tenth of a point ahead, and only 9.7 points covered the entire top fifteen. Hungary, which would lead the world by 2024, was seventh at 13.2%. Japan appears at 8.8% and Vietnam at 9.7%, the only Asian entries in a list otherwise built from Europe and the Americas.
