About This Dataset
Share of Web Traffic by Device TypeMobile phones now account for a small majority of global web traffic at about 51.5 percent, narrowly ahead of desktop and laptop computers at 47.1 percent, while tablets have faded to barely more than 1 percent. The near-even split between mobile and desktop is striking: although mobile has overtaken desktop worldwide, the two remain far closer than headlines about a mobile-first world often suggest, partly because much desktop use is concentrated in workplaces and wealthier regions. Tablets, once seen as a distinct third category, have been squeezed between ever-larger smartphones and lightweight laptops, leaving them a marginal share. The overall picture confirms that designing for both mobile and desktop remains essential, since neither platform dominates global web usage on its own.
