Most Formula 1 Pole Positions by Driver 2025

What this chart shows. The five drivers who took pole position for a Grand Prix in 2025, from the twenty-four qualifying sessions of the season. Max Verstappen started from pole 8 times, one more than Lando Norris on 7 and two more than Oscar Piastri on 6. George Russell had 2 and Charles Leclerc 1, and no other driver took a Grand Prix pole.

How the data is collected. Jolpica records the result of each qualifying session with a position for every driver, and the pole is the driver recorded in position one. The chart counts one pole per race weekend and reads the qualifying session for the Grand Prix itself; the separate qualifying session held on sprint weekends to set the sprint grid is not counted.

Background. Six of the twenty-four weekends included a sprint. Wikipedia records that Lewis Hamilton took pole for the sprint at the Chinese Grand Prix and that Kimi Antonelli took another, so both have sprint poles that do not appear here. Norris's seventh Grand Prix pole came in Las Vegas, where Jolpica also records him as disqualified from the race; both records are in the source and the pole is counted. Starting from pole was worth a win sixteen times in twenty-four.

Limits. Pole position is the fastest qualifying time, and in every one of the twenty-four races the pole sitter's recorded grid position was also first. Poles for all twenty-four weekends match the pole position column of Wikipedia's table of the season's races. The counts are small by nature, twenty-four in total, so one session changes a driver's total by a full pole.
