About This Dataset
Orbital Launch Attempts by Country 2021
Every attempt to place a payload in orbit during the 2021 calendar year, credited to the country the launch vehicle comes from rather than to the payload or the launch site. Failed attempts count. Suborbital flights and test hops that never targeted orbit are excluded.
Analysis
146 orbital launches were attempted in 2021 and 135 reached orbit. China flew 56 of them, 38.4% of the world total and 1.10 times the 51 of the United States. Together the top two flew 73.3% of all attempts, leaving 39 for the other 7 countries. 6 of the 9 countries attempted three launches or fewer.
