About This Dataset
Orbital Launch Attempts by Country 2022
Every attempt to place a payload in orbit during the 2022 calendar year, credited to the country the launch vehicle comes from rather than to the payload or the launch site. Failed attempts count. Suborbital flights and test hops that never targeted orbit are excluded.
Analysis
186 orbital launches were attempted in 2022 and 178 reached orbit. The United States flew 87 of them, 46.8% of the world total and 1.36 times the 64 of China. Together the top two flew 81.2% of all attempts, leaving 35 for the other 7 countries. 5 of the 9 countries attempted three launches or fewer.
