Estimated total warhead inventories in 2026, including weapons in storage and those awaiting dismantlement, not only the ones mounted on missiles. No government publishes a full count, so every figure here is an independent estimate and the two largest arsenals carry the widest error bars.
Analysis
Russia holds an estimated 4,400 warheads and the United States 3,700; between them that is 83.1% of the 9,745 held by all 9 nuclear-armed states. The other 7 states hold 1,645 between them. 6 states have warheads recorded as deployed, 3,912 in all. First tests run from 1945 to 2006.
