Carriers in commission in 2026, counted as the source counts them: fixed-wing carriers together with helicopter carriers and amphibious assault ships that operate aircraft. That definition is why several navies appear here at all, and why the American total is far larger than its number of supercarriers.

The United States has 20 carriers in commission, 37.7% of the 53 operated by the 16 navies listed and 2.9 times the 7 of China. 6 of the 16 countries operate exactly one. 4 navies have further carriers under construction: the United States 3, China 1, Russia 2 and Turkey 1.
