Countries With the Most Nuclear Reactors in Operation 2026
About This Dataset
Countries With the Most Nuclear Reactors in Operation 2026
Power reactors connected to the grid and available for operation in 2026, as recorded by the IAEA. Units in long-term shutdown are counted separately by the agency and are excluded here, which is why Japan appears well below the fleet size it had before 2011.
Analysis
The United States operates 94 of the 427 power reactors running worldwide, 22.0% of the global fleet and 1.5 times the 64 of China. The 14 countries here run 381 reactors, 89.2% of the world total. 9 of them are also building new units, led by China with 37. The smallest fleet on the chart belongs to Czechia with 6.
