Bauxite Production by Country 2024
About This Dataset
Bauxite Production by Country 2024
Bauxite mined in 2024, in millions of tonnes, from U.S. Geological Survey estimates. Bauxite is the ore aluminium is made from: it is refined into alumina and then smelted into metal, and the countries that mine it are not always the ones that smelt it.
Analysis
Guinea mined 130 million tonnes of bauxite in 2024, 28.9% of the 450 million tonnes mined worldwide and 1.3 times Australia on 100. The 12 countries here account for 98.6% of world output. The top three alone hold 71.8%. From fourth place down the chart drops sharply: Brazil mined 33 million tonnes, 25% of Guinea's output.
