The twenty countries with the lowest life expectancy at birth (years) in 2024, from World Bank figures for the 217 countries that reported that year. Nigeria records the lowest figure at 54.64, with Chad (55.24) and Central African Republic (57.67) next. Life expectancy at birth for the whole population, in years. It is a period measure built from the death rates recorded in that single year, so it describes conditions in that year rather than the lifespan of a child born into it.
