Countries by Greenhouse Gas Emissions per Capita 2024
About This Dataset
Countries by Greenhouse Gas Emissions per Capita 2024
The 20 countries and territories with the highest total greenhouse gas emissions per person in 2024, in tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This counts methane and nitrous oxide alongside carbon dioxide, so it is broader than a CO2-only ranking. Palau is highest at 86.68 tonnes per person, ahead of Qatar at 56.95 and Bahrain at 40.55. Data covers 203 countries and territories.
✨ AI Insight
The median country emits 4.11 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per person. Small energy-exporting states dominate the top of this list because national emissions are divided across a small population, so a single refinery or gas field can lift the per-person figure enormously.
