Electricity demand per person in 2023, in megawatt-hours, as measured by Ember. One MWh is 1,000 kilowatt-hours. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
In 2023 Iceland led at 51.1 MWh per person, with Norway second at 24.6. The order at the top is largely unchanged from 2024, which is expected: per-person demand moves with heating, cooling and industrial structure rather than with new power plants. The spread across this table is wide - the fifteenth country uses about 4.9 times less electricity per person than the leader.
