Natural Gas Share of Electricity by Country 2023
Share of each country's electricity generated from natural gas in 2023, measured by Ember from reported national grid data. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
Turkmenistan led the world at 100.0% of its electricity from gas, followed by Bahrain at 99.8% and Algeria at 98.7%. Nearly every country here produces its own gas, which is the pattern that distinguishes gas dependence from coal dependence - coal is often imported on price, gas is usually burned where it is found. Singapore at 92.6% is the clearest exception in the list.
