Clean Electricity Share by Country 2022
Share of electricity generated from clean sources - all renewables plus nuclear - in 2022, as measured by Ember. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
Analysis
Seven countries reached effectively 100% clean electricity in 2022 - one more than in 2023 - with Costa Rica and Nepal joining the usual hydropower group of Bhutan, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Iceland and Paraguay. Zambia at 88.9% is the only entry that does not appear in the 2023 or 2024 editions of this chart. Brazil at 89.8% is again the largest economy on the list, and Finland at 88.7% is the only country here that gets to a high clean share through a mix of nuclear, hydro and wind rather than one dominant source.
