Clean Electricity Share by Country 2023

About This Dataset

Clean Electricity Share by Country 2023
Share of each country's total electricity generation that came from clean sources - renewables plus nuclear in 2023, measured by Ember from reported national grid data. Covers countries that generated at least 10 TWh of electricity in the year, so very small island grids do not dominate the ranking.
✨ AI Insight

Six countries reached effectively 100% clean electricity in 2023 - Ethiopia, Bhutan, DR Congo, Iceland, Paraguay and Nepal - and Costa Rica came within a tenth of a point at 99.9%. The interesting names are lower down. Brazil at 91.0% is by far the largest economy in the ranking, running a 700-plus TWh grid mostly on hydro and wind, and France at 92.1% achieves a similar share through nuclear. Tajikistan at 94.2% and Uruguay at 92.4% complete a list where every entry depends on one dominant clean source.
