Installed hydroelectric generating capacity by country at the end of 2024, in gigawatts, as reported by Ember.
Analysis
China has 377.3 GW of hydropower capacity, more than Brazil, the United States and Canada combined (277.6 GW) and about 30% of the 1273 GW total across all countries listed. Below the top four the list is a geography lesson rather than an economics one: Norway at 34.5 GW and Venezuela at 16.9 GW appear alongside far larger economies. Turkey at 32.2 GW and Vietnam at 23.7 GW have both built most of their capacity within the last two decades.
