Largest Net Electricity Exporters by Country 2024
About This Dataset
Largest Net Electricity Exporters by Country 2024
Countries that exported the most electricity on a net basis in 2024, in terawatt-hours. Values are Ember net-import figures with the sign reversed, so a higher number means more electricity sent to other countries than received.
✨ AI Insight
France is by far the largest net exporter of electricity at 90.0 TWh in 2024 - more than double second-placed Laos at 36.7 TWh and Sweden at 33.4 TWh. France's position comes from nuclear output that exceeds domestic demand, while Laos and Paraguay at 16.0 TWh export surplus hydropower to larger neighbours. Norway at 18.4 TWh follows the same hydro pattern. China appears at 17.0 TWh, which is negligible relative to the 10,087 TWh it generates.
