Total electricity generated from solar power by country in 2024, in terawatt-hours, as measured by Ember from reported national grid data.
Analysis
China generated 839 TWh of solar electricity in 2024 - more than the next five countries combined and 2.8 times second-placed United States at 304 TWh. India is third at 143 TWh. This ranking rewards grid size rather than solar intensity, which is why it looks nothing like the solar-share table: Japan produces 97 TWh from a system where solar is a modest fraction, while Spain reaches 58 TWh from a grid barely a third the size of Japan's. Brazil at 71 TWh is the only South American country in the top fifteen.
