Least Peaceful Countries 2024 (Global Peace Index)
About This Dataset
Least Peaceful Countries 2024 (Global Peace Index)Yemen is ranked the least peaceful country in the world for the first time, with a score of 3.397, edging out Sudan (3.327) and South Sudan (3.324), both consumed by civil war. Afghanistan (3.294), which had been the least peaceful nation for six straight years, now sits fourth. The list is dominated by countries suffering active internal conflict, but two of Europe's largest states appear because of the war between them: Ukraine (3.28) and Russia (3.249), separated by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (3.264). The scores are tightly clustered, showing how a small group of conflict-ridden states cluster at the extreme end of the scale. The Middle East, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa account for most of the least peaceful nations.
