Longest-Reigning Current MonarchsHassanal Bolkiah (58.76 years) leads by a wide margin, nearly six years ahead of Sweden's Carl XVI Gustaf (52.82) - the only other current monarch past 50 years. A large gap then drops to Eswatini's Mswati III (40.21) and Norway's Harald V (35.48), after which the field falls into a cluster of 19-27 year reigns spanning Jordan's Abdullah II, Morocco's Mohammed VI, Cambodia's Norodom Sihamoni and Bhutan's Jigme Khesar. The spread - from 58 years down to 19 - reflects how the death of long-reigning 20th-century monarchs like Elizabeth II reset the rankings, leaving two exceptionally long reigns at the top and a younger generation of kings acceding since the late 1990s filling the rest.
