Personal Income Growth by State 2025
About This Dataset
Personal Income Growth by State 2025How the data is collected. We calculated each rate from BEA's unrounded personal income totals for 2024 and 2025 in table SAINC1. The totals cover everything residents receive: pay, business income, investment income and government benefits.
Background. Personal income in the United States as a whole rose 5.2%, and 24 of the 51 places grew faster than that. Income grew in every state, including Iowa, where it rose 4.0% even though the state's real GDP fell.
Limits. These are current-dollar changes, so part of each increase reflects inflation rather than more purchasing power. Total income also grows when population grows, so fast-growing states can post large increases even if income per person rises less.
Hawaii's personal income rose 7.1% in 2025, while Massachusetts, the second-richest state by income per person, grew only 4.4%.
