Per Capita Personal Income by State 2025

What this chart shows. Personal income per resident in each state and the District of Columbia in 2025, in current dollars. The District of Columbia led with $119,772, and Connecticut was the highest state at $102,307; they were the only two places above $100,000. Mississippi was lowest at $54,433.

How the data is collected. BEA's personal income is the income residents receive from all sources: wages and salaries, business owners' income, dividends, interest and rent, and government benefits such as Social Security. BEA divides each state's total by its midyear population from the Census Bureau; the figures come from table SAINC1, updated on September 30, 2026.

Background. Across the United States, personal income per person was $77,028 in 2025, up from $73,634 in 2024, and 18 of the 51 places in the chart were above the national figure. Wyoming ranked 5th, ahead of every state except Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

Limits. This is an average, so a few very high incomes raise it; it is not the income of a typical resident. The figures are before taxes and are not adjusted for differences in living costs between states, which BEA measures separately.
