GDP per Capita by State 2025

What this chart shows. GDP per person in each state and the District of Columbia in 2025, in current dollars. The District of Columbia was far ahead at $278,205, 2.3 times New York's $123,273, the highest of any state. Mississippi was lowest at $55,117.

How the data is collected. BEA does not publish this ratio in table SAGDP1, so we calculated it: current-dollar GDP from SAGDP1 divided by the midyear population that BEA reports in its personal income table SAINC1, which comes from US Census Bureau estimates.

Background. For the United States as a whole, GDP per person was $90,294, and 17 of the 51 places in the chart were above that. New York's figure was 2.2 times Mississippi's.

Limits. GDP is counted where work is done, while population is counted where people live, so places where many workers commute in from other states look richer than their residents are. The District of Columbia, a single city, is the extreme case. GDP per person is also not the same as income: compare the per capita personal income chart.
